Port Waikato to Clarks Beach

Hot, Humid and Headwinds marked todays ride. I had a consistent Easterly that I rode in to for the 25 km to the crossing of the Waikato River at the Tuakau Bridge. Because it was mostly flat I still managed close to a good 20 kph. I ducked off the route and took in Tuakau Town for breakfast and also thought it wise to get a laminated copy of my vacine pass just in case my phone died.

I was not sure where exactly I was going to today when I left Port Waikato and so some further research was done over breakfast - whatever I did I had to cross the Waikato at Tuakau.

I had approached a Warmshowers host out near Clarks Beach and they got back to me over breakfast to yes that's OK and apologised for the delay in responding due to their Mother's funeral. I thanked them and suggested a quiet time for them would be in order and then reviewed my plans.

The camp that I thought (well showed up) as being oout East at Clevdon appeared to be a Scout Camp that was closed to the public (even a Queen Scout, Wood Badge Holder)... LOL.

I then saw a Warmshowers Host out at Maraeti and so flicked off a message to them. In  the meantime I settled on Clarks Beach Holiday Park and in view of the wind and the out and back course to get there I decided to check availability and book ahead.

It was overcast with exceptionally high humidity as I rode out to Clarks Beach  through NZ's Vegetable Garden! Acres and acres of vege's - long may this good soil continue to be used for productive horticulture rather than unproductive housing as is happening the closer you get to Auckland.

There was one hill to climb which wasn't too bad and then as it had been since leaving Tuakau was a push on in to the headwind - the wind seemed to swing more Northerly for the second half of my ride!

Again not a long ride today so plenty of time at camp to chill.
