Rerewhakaaitu to Rotorua

Another short day but that's OK.

A good ride around the Lake to start with then a bit of riding on road before getting off that on to a quiet back road. Stopped for breakfast and decided to order the "Big Breakfast". We'll when it arrived it was the smallest big breakfast of ever seen.  Half a tomato,  2 poached eggs, 2 small rashers of bacon, 2 of the tiniest sausages made, 2 small potato rosti things and some spaghetti.  Just as well I have no need to return.

A but after that when I was in the dedicated off road cycle trail I saw Ray riding towards me which was a pleasant surprise. We had a chat and then all I had to do was either follow Ray or his instructions to make our way to his and Judy's.  I'm very fortunate to once again be enjoying their hospitality.  Several cups of tea later and a shower had me feeling like new again.

Judy was good enough to take me in to town to let me buy some things i find i need, like a sun proof head piece to wear under my helmet as with the new helmet I find the old head is getting a bit too much sun through the holes in the helmet. I also swapped out my larger gas container i was given by a nice motorhomer at Cape Egmont for the smaller 100 gm one and I've also bought a new top tube pouch for my phone etc. now that the long sleeved shirt does not have back pockets.

The bike got its first wash off the trip and I have oiled the chain for the second time (the lube in using I'd bet long lasting and seems to be doing the trick).

Ray got on the phone to confirm with his local gravel bike rider the best route out of town for me and as expected came up with the Cecil/Leslie Road option.  I'd heard from several sources about this famous Leslie Road route but no where could I find any info on it.

There's nothing quite like local knowledge.
