Well, what a night was last night. The retirees had said how great the camp was last long weekend so it was natural to think a normal Friday night would be equally as sweet.
Not so.
Even though there was acres of free space the families that arrived at 11.00 pm chose to set about putting up their tents right beside mine. You would have thought it was 11.00 am as they merrily carried on in full voice and noise. Even the young children were playing as if it was school lunchtime.
Once their tents were up is was full on party time through 12, 1, 2 and 3.00 am and about then their friend arrived " I knew I stayed up for a reason Mrs said" and there was a great round of catch ups...
Not that that kept me awake at all. What did was the other campers further along on the other side. There to start with the 4 or 5 "Ladies" started fighting (they had also been partying) and they just kept at it with no let up. At times their men folk were heard to be getting involved as well. And that went on well through to beyond 4.00 am before the police vehicles arrived! They visited the two warring parties the commotion surprisingly settled down and by 4.50 when the police left all was quiet eventually in the camp...
It is easy to see how when these things happen they can end up with dire consequences. Fortunately for those families it wasn't last night.
I was up at six and away by 7.30 am with what I think was my best packed bike this far in the journey.
It was a nice ride along the Waikato River Trail before I crossed a bridge and past a no entry sign (there was clearly a gap for walkers and cyclists) still as I climbed up the road beside the dam i wasn't to keen on seeing the CCTV cameras. They had the result to make me peak faster and clear the area.
It was then a climb up on the roads leading around Maungatautri and in to Karapiro where I met up Rob and Lynn from Cambridge at the cafe. After a good catch up I was on my way in to what now is a reasonably hot day - 30 degrees.
I had been invited to stop at Henry and Robyn's farm just outside Matamata and its such a lovely invitation as they are a great couple that I met in the Kopiko.
My ride across from Karapiro took me right past Hobbiton and seeing it is still so popular this many years after the movie has me making a note to myself that I must watch it sometime.
