Matamata to Hamilton

A short day starting at lunchtime after getting back from a couple of days over in Tauranga with Nick and Phoebe.

Interesting thing being that the InterCity bus that I caught back to Matamata did not have a Covid QR scanning poster! Most strange considering it was a potential place of high transmission. While there were not lots of big hills on the ride given the hot and humid day it was made the hills that I did encounter seem just that much harder.

Today was probably my fastest so far with a 19 kph average speed.  Not too bad considering the heat and the hills.

Mind you with hills it is very much a mind game and I have a bench mark of the 300 metre climb to the sign of the Kiwi on the Port Hills to gauge everything by.  I can always get up there and I've yet to encounter a climb equal to it on my ride so far. They are mostly a lot less than 300 metres,  just more of them.

Robyn sent me on my way this morning with freshly cooked muffin, Anzac biscuit, rain slice and the tastiest plums from their orchard so I had a real little picnic when I stopped on my way before I came across av fresh fruit ice cream at a beery farm at Matangi.

Hamilton was easy enough to get myself across to Graeme and Heather's where I've been looked after well and we've had a  good catch up. There was quite a bit of new road works to negotiate my way through on the South before crossing the river and when finished will be great as th they are putting in a decent cycleway.

No pictures today just the strava map.
